The Cynthia Coles Circle The Cynthia Coles Circle was organized in September 1976 at Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Louis Johnson, who incorporated the circle into the Department of Missions. The Circle was named in honor of Cynthia Coles, an active member who died from complications caused by Sickle Cell Anemia in 1976 at the age of twenty-one
Our Mission The Cynthia Coles Circle has supported the Sickle Cell Disease Association of American (SCDAA)-Michigan Chapter for 46 years. Every year, we have been blessed with the support of loyal church members, persons & organizations in the community that has enabled us to contribute 100% of the net proceeds from our annual benefit. In 2021 due to the pandemic we initiated a webinar campaign, utilizing the ZOOM online platform. This enabled us to donate $3,100. This year, 2022, our 46th year, we again were unable to hold an in-person event, and with the same technology, held our second virtual benefit. In Helping to Break the Sickle Cycle over $180,840 has been raised to fight against Sickle Cell Disease. The funds are contributed to SCDAA to further the goal for a cure, promote awareness of this disease and to assist the Parents Support Group with summer camp for children who are afflicted with the disease to a week of fun with other children like themselves in a safe environment that caters to their specific needs. God has smiled on us, giving us the spirit to persevere
